Vintage Thought!

"Where am I?
Who am I?
How did I come
to be here?
What is this thing
called the world?
How did I come
into the world?
Why was I not consulted?
And . . . .
if I am compelled to
take part in it,
where is the director?
I want to see him."

Soren Kierkegaard
Danish Philosopher and
Theologian (1813-1855)

Just What Is

Alpha?

You've heard about the Alpha Course somewhere... somehow... from someone...

But what is it?

Is it about building friendships with people... or is it about great meals and interesting discussions... or is it really about answering perplexing, vintage questions?

The Alpha Invitation
Is There More to Life Than This?
Imagine if every person in your community knew they were invited to a warm, friendly, engaging introductory Alpha dinner...

What would happen if every church in your area joined together in dynamic and fervent prayer?

How would your community change if every member in the churches of your area invited their friends, family, neighbors to explore the big questions of the Christian faith at their Alpha courses?

What is it?
The Alpha Invitation happens when members of two or more churches and Alpha courses send a collective "Invitation to their communities" to the introductory Alpha dinners held in restaurants, homes and churches. At this "Introductory Dinner", guests are introduced to the Alpha Course and invited back to attend the ten week course. We've developed a four minute video to explain the purpose as well as share the excitement and fruitfulness of the Alpha Invitation.

What are the benefits?
  • It raises the profile of the Alpha Course, making it easier for congregations to invite their non-church-going friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors to their Introductory Alpha dinner;
  • It creates a 'buzz' and 'momentum' in the community leading to increased faith among Christians, more boldness and more energy to pray, plan, implement and invite people to the Alpha Introductory dinner, and
  • It encourages unity amongst the churches in the community that God blesses (Ps 133).
A key outcome of the Invitation is that more churches that run Alpha courses, the more invitations there will be to the 'lost' to attend leading to more commitments to Jesus Christ and disciples of Him.

Recent Research in New England showed: 28% of all converts (in New England) came through the Alpha Course. Silas Partners, April, 2007

50% make a commitment to Christ on the Alpha course.

The Invitation Brings Unity
Nicky Gumbel reminds us that, "Unity is absolutely key. It is fantastic to see Catholic and Protestant, black and white, rich and poor, old and young, male and female coming together uniting around the Gospel of Jesus Christ and praying to see that message go out across the nation."

This fall billboards, buses, yard signs, banners, bumpre stickers, posters are going to appear all over the greater Seattle area asking this question.  Churches across the area are inviting their friends to dinner, to an opportunity to explore the relevance of Jesus to their lives.  The Alpha Invitation Kick-off will be June 19, 6:30pm - 9pm and June 20, 8:30am - 4pm, at The Neighborhood Church, in Bellevue, WA.  Registration is $40 per person, $20 per person for Alpha Invitation Partner Chruches.  For more informationabout the Alpha Invitation, click here.  http://www.alphausa.org/Groups/1000024318/The_Alpha_Invitation.aspx.  For more local information, contact Dave Deshazer at davedeshazer@alphausa.org.

 MULTICULTURAL ALPHA

One of the most exciting aspects about Alpha is that it is for people of all ethnic backgrounds. Alpha can (and is) being presented in many different languages around the world. Currently, ten million pople have attended 30,000 Alpha courses in 163 different countries. We are all Gods' children, and he loves each one of us. The Marriage Course

Many Alpha practitioners are using this wonderful resource developed at the same church that produced Alpha. Couples receive practical guidance that encourages and strengthens marriages during this wonderful “date night with a purpose!”

What Others Are Saying!

Rick Warren, founder of the Purpose Driven Network, describes the Alpha Course as "one of the most effective evangelism tools for the 21st century" and urges church leaders to check Alpha out.

Nothing beats “word of mouth.” Often it is what validates a product or service. Alpha is no different. People who have experienced Alpha first-hand have lots to say and you’ll want to check it out.
